The response is to develop a program that captures the essence of its past industrial times by using modern technology as the driver and allows for it to work with the site’s large architectural & artistic influences.
The building developed in small increments of design sequences that shaped each function of the spaces in a careful manner focusing specifically on the important points observed from the Piranesian studies on space, depth, light, and movement (Project 1 – Prototype).
Each iteration developed further by considering the constraints of the site and aims for the building,
The key spatial/atmospheric qualities are based on the idea of transitioning through stages large to small, loud to quiet, steel to wood, these spatial & material changes give the building a dynamic experience (Project 2 – Architype).
The program is an electronic waste recycling facility that inhabits the old industrial waterfront building of swan wharf. Designed for London’s tech waste problem, the growth of technology around us made our lives easier but harder on the environment and developing countries that accumulate our waste, this building is meant to relieve that pressure by developing an experience for the public that educates them about the reuse of technology and the values they bring. This Dissertation is about understanding the formal and informal growth of Venezuela’s Communal Slums. Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, is the focus of this dissertation, and it is argued that its slums are the by-product of diverse political, economic and social strategies. Each slum is unique to its own topographical location and habitual practices, and this dissertation explores the more elaborative roles played within the slum communities that have resulted in their evolution from informal to formal urban spaces.
This Dissertation is about redefining facade retention systems and the benefits of bridging the old architecture with the new by preserving historic elements within them.
